Anchusa capensis 'Blue Angel'
Compact Cape Forget-Me-Not with intensely coloured deep blue summer flowers

Anchusa capensis 'Blue Angel', also known as Cape Forget-Me-Not, is a compact, free-flowering plant producing masses of intensely coloured deep blue to indigo flowers above bristly green foliage. Its exceptionally vivid blue colouring makes it particularly valuable for creating strong contrast in borders, containers and cottage-style planting, while the flowers are also suitable for cutting.

Compact and easy to place even in smaller gardens, 'Blue Angel' flowers generously through summer and is highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. It performs best in full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil, and once established has good tolerance of relatively dry conditions.

Expert Growing Tips

● Do not bury the seeds deeply; 'Blue Angel' is a light germinator, so surface sow and use only a very light covering.

● For earlier summer flowers, start seeds indoors at around 20°C before hardening young plants off for planting outside.

● Remove faded flowers regularly to prolong the flowering period and keep compact plants producing fresh blooms.

● Once established, plants tolerate relatively dry conditions well, but avoid poorly drained or persistently waterlogged soil.

● After the first major flush of flowers, cutting plants back can encourage fresh growth and a second flush of blooms later in the season.
